Garden Retreat with a Japanese Twist
The main objective was to create a garden that the client could easily maintain, enjoy, relax and unwind in. Also, access to the garden needed to be addressed to make it easy for the client to use. A large manhole was located on the second level that also needed hiding effectively.
A terrace close to the house was created using Yorkstone paving, which the client requested. Comfortable steps lead up onto the second level that leads to a second seating area under the pergola. The pergola is also a focal point from the house and terrace. A water feature is also on this second level that can be heard on the terrace as well as under the pergola. Lighting was also incorporated so the garden could be enjoyed at night.
The design, planting and materials reflected a Japanese theme, using granite Japanese lanterns and water feature. The pergola was also in the Japanese style.
The retaining wall was constructed to match the bricks on the house with Yorkstone Coping to match the terrace. The manhole was hidden by white pebbles and overflowing planting.
